We Will Miss You Uncle Bob

Robert P. Holbrook Loved Life Robert Parkin Holbrook, age 75, died March 14th, 2009 of congestive heart failure. He was surrounded by the love of so many family members. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.Born January 2nd, 1934 in Bountiful, Utah to hearty pioneer stock, Leo S. Holbrook and Arlene P. Holbrook. Married Marilyn Beath, October 11th, 1955. She was the mother of their four wonderful children. Later divorced. Married Sally Lomax July 17th, 1970. Bob attended Davis High School, where he excelled in sports. He entered the US States Navy where he was assigned to an aircraft carrier, USS Sicily, CVE 118 during the Korean War. He served two tours of duty working the entire time as a Chaplain's Assistant. Upon returning from the service, Bob worked at Phillips Oil Refinery in Wood Cross. He then worked at Hercules in Magna, Utah for 32.5 years working in the testing facilities. Bob enjoyed his time there and made so many friendships. Bob was an excellent gardener, accomplished woodworker and a superb photographer. Bob and Sally covered most of the world in their travels. Kenya and Egypt were two of his very favorite locations to photograph. He had a zest for life and loved people. He was at his best when he was playing practical jokes or was teasing the kids. He is survived by his best friend and sweetheart Sally; daughters Cynthia R (Dixon) Shumway, Cathleen L. Holbrook; son Robert B. (Brenda) Holbrook; three brothers Clarence, Stanley and Larry; two sisters Joyce and Janette; grandchildren Heather, Jake, Catie (Wade), Travis (Amy), Jeff and Dillon; great-grandchildren Cole, Haley, Lauren, Kjirsten and Cambrie. Preceded in death by his parents, and one son Timothy, and his favorite kitty Lilbud. Special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers that improved Bob's quality of life, with a special thanks to Dr. Scott West. Bob wished to be cremated and scattered at a location of extreme beauty that he loved to photograph. A family memorial service will be held. Friends may call upon the family at a wake to celebrate his life on Friday, March 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.
